I took this picture out the window of our car at the trees being sold along the side of the road. We bought our tree at just such a place. They cost between $10 and $20 and they are quite beautiful although they do need a bit of trimming. I’m sure we got the “foreigner” price. Well worth it!
Christmas Trees
December 13th, 2008More volcanoes
December 12th, 2008Way in the background you can see one of the volcanoes I get to look at during my morning runs. This one has rarely been visible, but we had an incredibly clear day today. We are, I guess, in the rainy season. When this clears up I hope to see more of this volcano. Let’s just hope it does not choose to erupt! The views are actually much more dramatic than my point and shoot camera reveals.
Living in the Mountains
December 11th, 2008I admit, I never understood the allure of “living in the mountains” before. When people would ask “mountains or ocean” I thought it was a silly question. I mean, the mountains are always the same, right? Well, no. This is my first experience seeing how beautiful and varied mountains can actually be. This is the view from my street, so I see this mountain several times a day, and I admit I have become very attached to it. It always looks different, depending on the weather, the time of day, the season. I swear, you would think it was a totally different view every day. I always pause to look and think about what I am seeing. Sometimes it is a blur in the distance and sometimes it is so clear I swear I can see each blade of grass and each rocky outcropping. The clouds change it regularly, often blocking off the top part totally. Then, if it is hazy it just looks like a mirage. I love it! There are obviously better views, but this has become my view so I am quite partial to it.
Our Picaflor
December 8th, 2008We have a pair of hummingbirds that hang around our feeder all the time. This is one of them. I can get quite close to them, although my camera isn’t good enough to show that. They chatter and talk and buzz around. We have tons of flowers in our garden, and they visit all of them. However, they prefer our feeder full of sugar water!
